Jesus’ last words are recorded in Acts 1:8 “ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” He knew that we could not possibly fulfill the Great Commission to be His witnesses throughout the world unless we were filled with the Holy Spirit.
In Acts 4, the early church was experiencing persecution and so they prayed for God’s help. In Acts 4:31 we read, “And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.”
Being filled with the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary for the church to be effective in lifestyle evangelism. Believers don’t need to just learn another gospel presentation. Instead they need to abide in Christ, listen to and obey His voice, love people, and have spiritual and gospel conversations with people as the Spirit leads them to do so.
